nilambu Etiquette
Basic etiquette is a part of the yamas – ahimsa. Show compassion for yourself and others and create a healthy mandala – literally circle, center or that which surrounds. Please follow these guidelines:
- Ask questions. If you have a question, others likely do as well.
- Honor your limit and yourself. Note that you and your limits are dynamic and may be more or less than expected. Listen and pay attention to the sensations of your body and the state of your mind.
- Strive to arrive 10 minutes early. This leaves time to remove your shoes and get situated so that class begins exactly on time. Latecomers not only miss for themselves, they disturb the practice of fellow yogis.
- You are expected to remain for the entire session. An early departure not only disrupts others, but you’ll miss the final pose – savasana (corpse pose or deep relaxation).
- Mats and props are provided but you may bring your own mat if you wish.
- Organize your practice area in an orderly fashion with consideration to those around you.
- All cell phones and beepers must be turned off.
- Refrain from gum chewing.
- Do not bring any food or beverages other than water into the studio.
- Please no chewing gum.
- Nurture the qualities of your mind, spirit and body delineated here.
